Bryisha Pennington, 39, of Harvey, has been identified as the victim in what authorities are calling a tragic murder-suicide that occurred late Monday night in the 500 block of 3rd Street.
According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 11:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Pennington and a male, later identified as 28-year-old Laymon Adams of Terrytown, both suffering from gunshot wounds in the street.
Bryisha was a vibrant soul—full of life, love, and strength. She was known for her warm heart, infectious laugh, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends. A lifelong resident of Harvey, Bryisha was a proud mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and resilience, always putting others before herself.
She is survived by her children, her loving parents, siblings, and a host of extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memory. Bryisha’s sudden and tragic death has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Deputies say Adams was pronounced dead at the scene from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A gun was recovered near his body, according to JPSO.
A memorial service will be held in her honor, with details to be announced by the family.
