It is with deep sorrow and heartbreak that we announce the tragic passing of Fernando Castillo Rodriguez, age 40, who lost his life in a shooting early Sunday morning, July 27, 2025, in Oakland, California.
Fernando was a beloved son, cousin, friend, and colleague. He served as the dedicated manager of Wooden Table Baking Company, a local bakery known not only for its handcrafted treats but also for its commitment to community and craft—values that Fernando embodied wholeheartedly.
Born in 1985, Fernando was known for his warm smile, tireless work ethic, and generous spirit. He had a passion for baking, a love that he poured into his work every day. Beyond the kitchen, Fernando was a mentor and motivator, inspiring those around him with his creativity, kindness, and unwavering belief in the people he worked with.
His sudden and senseless death, the result of a shooting at an unlicensed nightclub on 85th Avenue around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, has left his family and community reeling. His cousin, who identified him publicly, shared the heartbreak of a life taken too soon—a life full of dreams, purpose, and love.
Fernando’s legacy will live on in every cookie, every conversation, and every memory held dear by those who knew him. He leaves behind a grieving family, many loving friends, and a community forever changed by his presence.
