Hugh F. Keefe, a revered figure in Connecticut’s legal community and one of the nation’s most respected criminal defense attorneys, passed away peacefully on Friday at the age of 82 . His passing marks the end of an era defined by legal brilliance, unwavering ethics, and a lifelong dedication to justice.
Born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut, Hugh Keefe was more than a courtroom titan he was a mentor, educator, and advocate for the rule of law. A graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law, he quickly rose to prominence for his commanding presence in the courtroom and his exceptional skill in high-profile and complex criminal cases.
Keefe co-founded the law firm Lynch, Traub, Keefe & Errante, which became one of Connecticut’s most respected legal institutions. His legal career spanned decades and was marked by landmark victories, fearless defense strategies, and an unshakable commitment to his clients no matter the odds.
In addition to his remarkable courtroom record, Keefe was also a beloved educator. For over 40 years, he taught trial practice at Yale Law School, shaping the next generation of legal minds with a blend of sharp intellect, humor, and high standards.
