Joe Lazar Westlake Ohio Accident – It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Joe Lazar, a beloved member of the City of Westlake community. Joe tragically lost his life on September 11, 2025, after being struck by a vehicle while faithfully performing his duties as a school crossing guard at the intersection of Hilliard and Dover Center.
Joe had proudly served as a City of Westlake School Crossing Guard since December 2019. Known for his dedication, reliability, and warm personality, he was a familiar and friendly face to countless students, parents, and residents each day. Before and after his shifts, Joe was a regular visitor at the Westlake Police Department, where he was regarded not only as a colleague but as a friend to many.
Joe took great pride in serving his community, ensuring the safety of others with a genuine spirit of care and responsibility. His kindness, humor, and unwavering commitment left a lasting impact on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all members of the Westlake Police Department, who remember him as a good man with a generous heart.
No other person was injured in the incident, and the case remains under review by the City of Westlake Law Department.
