Lewisville, Texas : In the early hours of today, Lewisville police shot and fatally wounded a female suspect following a high-speed pursuit that began with a routine traffic stop. The incident, now under investigation, has drawn attention and concern across the region.

Sequence of Events

The encounter began near State Highway 121 after officers attempted to stop a vehicle whose driver was suspected of having an outstanding felony warrant.

After the officers confirmed the driver’s identity, the vehicle accelerated away, initiating a pursuit across multiple jurisdictions. During the chase, the suspect’s vehicle collided with a Lewisville police car. The officer in that car was not injured. The chase concluded in a commercial parking lot in the 2200 block along the southbound Interstate 35E service road in Lewisville. When officers approached to make an arrest, the suspect is reported to have produced a firearm and refused commands to drop it.

Officers responded by firing shots, striking the suspect. Emergency services rendered aid, and the suspect was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Identity & Status

Authorities have identified the woman as 43-year-old Joanna Rebecca Rogers of Carrollton. The motive behind the encounter remains under review, including why the suspect fled and whether the outstanding warrant was related to the chain of events. No injuries to bystanders or officers have been reported.

Lewisville has placed four officers on administrative leave while internal affairs and departmental reviews proceed.
