In Loving Memory of Sara Paquin (2016 – 2025)
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Sara Paquin, a beloved 9-year-old student from Sarreguemines in the Moselle department of France, who tragically died by suicide amid suspected bullying at her primary school. Sara was a vibrant and kind-hearted child, known to her friends and classmates for her bright smile and gentle spirit. Her love for life and curious nature brought joy to those around her. The community now grieves not only for the life that was lost, but for the weight of pain she carried in silence.
According to investigators, Sara’s body was found on Saturday, October 11,2025 following what authorities say was a voluntary act. Police determined that she left a farewell note, and school records indicate she had faced harassment over her weight from classmates. Her family reported no prior awareness of her distress.
In the wake of this tragedy, educators and community leaders have expressed deep anguish and are urging reflection and action. Regional education officials in Moselle described the event as “shaking” and have called for renewed efforts to eliminate bullying in schools. A support cell has been set up at Sara’s school to assist students, staff and families impacted by the incident.
As we mourn Sara’s passing, we also honour the legacy of innocence, courage and vulnerability she leaves behind. Her story has become a call to each one of us: to listen more deeply, to act more compassionately, and to ensure no child falls into darkness alone.
To Sara’s family: words cannot express the magnitude of our sorrow. May you find comfort in your memories of her laughter, her presence and the love that surrounded her. May Sara rest in peace, carried forever in hearts and in the change we pursue in her memory.
