In Memoriam: Suman Mokhtarian (1992–2025)
It is with deep sorrow that we report the untimely death of Suman Mokhtarian, a former UFC fighter, dedicated coach, and mentor, who was shot and killed today in Sydney’s Riverstone suburb.
At approximately 6 p.m., emergency responders arrived at Annaluke Street after reports of gunfire. Suman was found suffering from gunshot wounds and, despite medical intervention, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Mokhtarian was 33 years old and had transitioned from his career in the UFC to become a passionate instructor and leader within the MMA community. Colleagues, students, and fans remember him as a generous mentor who believed in the potential of others and pushed them to achieve their best.
Police are treating the incident as a targeted attack and have opened multiple lines of inquiry into the shooting. In the minutes following the shooting, a red Audi and other vehicles were discovered ablaze nearby, which investigators believe may be related to the crime. Communities across Sydney and within MMA circles have expressed shock, grief, and solidarity in the face of this violence.
In this moment of mourning, our thoughts extend to Suman’s family, his students, and his many friends. May they find comfort in the legacy he leaves behind: a legacy of determination, mentorship, and genuine care for others. Suman’s influence will continue to live through those he trained, guided, and inspired. May he rest in peace.
